Ann’s Saint

My name is Ann. I am a practicing labor and delivery nurse and have also educated others as an advance practice nurse for almost 44 years. God called me to become a nurse when I was 8 years old. Saint Anne is patroness of unmarried women, housewives, women in labor or who want to be pregnant grandmothers, educators and teachers. I have fulfilled all of these roles. Therefore I feel a special closeness to her. My Mother’s family were protestants. That changed when my Grandmother was so grateful for the care the nuns gave her in the birth of my mother. She decided to raise Mother in the Catholic faith. Grandmother herself converted to Catholicism later in life. ( I was chosen as her sponsor when she was confirmed). It was my Grandmother who influenced the choice of my name. I look back as an older woman and see how God, St. Anne and her daughter, our blessed Virgin Mary guided the discernment of our family and my life.
